“Life is sad, life is a bust,

all you can do, is do what you must.

You do what you must do and you do it well.”

“Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.” -Proverb 29:11

I have always known there was something to venting that was not good. Personally, I use to do this all the time with anyone I knew well and who would listen. I vented because I thought it was unhealthy to keep emotions bottled inside; after doing it for years it only made me feel alone in this world. But then I read in an old devotional there is a difference between venting and a confession

Venting is solely for the purpose of letting everything out, but with a Confession you decide to make a difference afterward about how you are going to do to help, fix, and/or change whatever you are talking about. Too often people only vent to a friend about something which just leads to opening up new doors for dwelling on the issue, but not doing anything about it.

Also, recently I have learned venting could be a form of gossip. Is it okay to talk about how much one friend is driving you crazy to another? What is the line drawn between venting and gossip? These are the specifics people tend to forget or ignore because they are allow their emotions to lead them in certain situations; it seems mostly when they are frustrated, or angry.

I do not believe that venting is a bad thing, but it can easily become one. People, including myself sometimes, need to think before they vent… they should think before they speak to just whoever is close by, and pray about speaking to a person in their life who can provide guidance in their life and encouragement for taking steps to improve their situation and not to dwell on it
